Tips for Improving Fingerprint Verification

Instructions

The Fingerprint Sensor of Ultraloq Smart Lock is a type of electronic security system that uses fingerprints for biometric authentication to grant the users access to your Ultraloq Smart Lock.

The Fingerprint Sensor of Ultraloq Smart Locks is different from Smartphones, Computers, and other devices due to the unique hardware and algorithm. Please follow the next instructions to register and don't refer to any other methods. 

 

Common causes of Low-Approval Fingerprint Verification

The following are some circumstances that can increase the chance of fingerprints being rejected:

1. Frequently washing/disinfecting hands.

2. Activities that require the use of the fingertips such as weight-lifting, rock climbing, gardening, or playing guitar.

3. Frequent or regular handling of paper or typing.

4. Exposures to chemicals, such as bleach, chlorine, acetone, antibacterial products.

5. Age: Skin becomes smoother, and ridges become harder to capture with age.

 

Tips for Successful Finger Verification 

Common Tips 

> The finger is clean, and without any callus, it's not peeling or injured.

> Don't tap too quickly or move your finger around while scanning the fingerprint.

> Cover the Fingerprint Sensor completely with some pressure, not too light or too hard.

> We recommend that each user register multiple fingerprints.

Special Tips

Except for the general tips above, some Ultraloq Smart Locks have different fingerprint sensor techniques due to the unique hardware and software design. Please refer to the instructions below.

Ultraloq UL3 Series

> If the fingerprint is too dry, please touch your forehead to moisturize the fingerprint or blow on your finger to moisture. 

> Avoid direct sunlight on the Fingerprint Sensor.

> Ensure your finger is at the same angle as it was during enrollment. Moderate changes in finger angle during touching can cause an error.

Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro

> You must touch the surrounding metal ring when you place the finger.

> If the fingerprint is wet, please dry your finger.

> Please scan multiple fingerprint angles while registering a fingerprint. 

> U-Bolt Pro fingerprint sensor has a self-study function in which the verification rate will be improved after various successful accesses.

Ultraloq Lever/UL1/Combo

> If the fingerprint is wet, please dry your finger.

> Ensure your finger is at the same angle as it was during enrollment. Even moderate changes in finger angle during touching can cause the match failed error.

 

Troubleshooting for Failed Fingerprinting

If you have referred to the tips above and are still getting failure notifications while scanning the fingerprint, please follow the steps below.

Step 1. Power cycle your lock by removing and reinserting one of the batteries. If the battery is low, please replace them with brand new ones.

Step 2. Re-connect the wire between the Interior Assembly and the Exterior Assembly carefully.

For the UL1 model, please try to follow the below direction to insert new batteries.

Step 3. Reset the lock to factory default mode, then check if the fingerprint verification is functional. In factory default mode, any fingerprints can unlock the lock. How to Reset Ultraloq Smart Lock to its Factory Settings?

Step 4. To verify the fingerprint function, you can check by using other users' fingers.

Step 5. To check the firmware version and upgrade accordingly. How to update the firmware manually?

 

If the fingerprint reader doesn't get any response; please submit a ticket. We will provide further support.

 

Note: Most people following these tips will have significantly improved their fingerprint verification rate. There is a tiny percentage (about .1%) of people that will not produce acceptable prints.
